If you love watching rom-coms, then you’re in for a treat. ‘Last Christmas’ is a movie directed by Paul Feig and written by Bryony Kimmings. Emma Thompson was the co-writer of the screenplay along with her husband Greg Wise. Fans of ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ may be delighted with the pairing of Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding in this.
What made the movie swoon-worthy?
The Acting
Emilia Clarke’s jolly demeanor shines in the movie. She’s seen as the fierce and independent leader in GoT, but in ‘Last Christmas’ she was able to deliver a whole new character. She did a great job as the quirky yet lovable aspiring singer who works as an elf. In one scene, where she’s opening up to Henry’s character about her past, she delivered great acting chops with her lines and emotions. Once you watch the film, you’ll know what I’m talking about! That scene gave me goosebumps.
Henry Golding’s charming and energetic acting in the movie fits his character well. Tom’s optimistic, hopeful, and cheerful attitude was perfect for Henry. The scene where he seems to be showing Katarina a secret place was wonderful. He did a great job melting the audience’s hearts with his glistening eyes and enthusiastic lines.
The characters have an unconventional chemistry, yet it does grow on you and will slowly make you swoon. The ice skating scene of the two lovebirds will make you feel warm inside. It’s funny, quirky and lovable .
Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh’s acting were phenomenal, as well. Michelle Yeoh is great as a mother figure, while Emma Thompson will make you understand the depths of being a mother to a reckless adult like Katarina.Their characters showed the different kinds of motherly love and affection women can show one another. The characters in the ‘Last Christmas’ were diverse and relatable and that’s what made the movie a feel-good movie.

The story was co-written by Emma Thompson. She’s known to be both a great actress and screenwriter. Last Christmas’ story is rich with themes of hope, love, diversity and joy! It’s a beautiful story interwoven with the spirit of Christmas .The movie will make you laugh, cry, swoon, and feel the charming chemistry between the two lead characters! The story has twists and turns that will make you feel the essence of Christmas and why you should look up in life.
The Technical Side
The film’s ambiance brims with joy and colorful aesthetics of Christmas. You will get to feast your eyes on an abundance of Christmas decors and aesthetics. The locations where they shot the scenes were nostalgic and beautiful. The movie gloriously captures London during the Christmas season.
