Lashana Lynch from “Captain Marvel” is the new 007

Lashana Lynch

Fans of the James Bond franchise, we have news for you: the new 007 in the upcoming Bond 25 will be Lashana Lynch. You might remember her for playing Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel.

But before people get angry for casting a woman in a role traditionally filled by men, Lynch will be playing Agent 007, not James Bond. Daniel Craig will still be playing the role, but will be retiring to Jamaica. The actress will just be taking on the agent number.

According to the Daily Mail: “The story begins with Bond retired in Jamaica. But spymaster M – played by Ralph Fiennes – calls him back in desperation to tackle a new global crisis. A movie insider said: ‘There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says “Come in 007″, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman. It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”

Bond 25 is the 25th installment in the James Bond franchise since it premiered in 1962 with Dr. No. This will be Craig’s final outing as the intelligence officer in the Secret Intelligence Service.

The character has become a British icon, with the movie becoming one of the highest-grossing franchises. In 2012, Craig appeared as the character at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics as Queen Elizabeth II’s escort.

Bond 25 will premiere on April 3, 2020.
