Judy Ann Santos Asks for More Cinemas to Show ‘Mindanao

Brillante Mendoza’s war drama “Mindanao” won Best Picture at the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awards, once again begging the question: why isn’t it as popular as the other movies in the MMFF roster? Judy Ann Santos, who stars in the movie, had a lot to say about it during her acceptance speech when she won Best Actress.

With hopes that the awards that they won would translate to the film showing in more theaters nationwide, Judy Ann joked upon receiving the Php100,000 cash prize that she received with her co-star Allen Dizon, who won Best Actor: “Direk, baka puwede namin pagsamahin ni Allen iyong Php200,000. Kikita na siguro tayo kahit papaano.” [Direk, maybe Allen and I can pool together our Php200,000, so we can at least make some money.]

During their acceptance speech after winning Best Picture, she said, “Bilang kaunti lang po iyong sinehan namin, baka puwedeng pakidamihan naman po. Pakisabi na lang.” [Since we don’t have a lot of screenings, can someone talk to someone to add more for us?]

Brillante Mendoza, who also won as Best Director for the film, had the same sentiments and also asked for more cinemas to show ‘Mindanao’. Let’s show our support by watching the movie. You still have until January 7, 2020 to catch ‘Mindanao’ in cinemas. Have you seen it?
