After much speculation, Nintendo finally confirms that it’s working on its next-gen handheld console, the Nintendo Switch 2!
The president of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, announced this on X and said that the official announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2 will come by March 2025 at the latest.
“We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” wrote Furukawa in a tweet. He then noted that although a Nintendo Direct is slated to happen this coming June, they will not be mentioning the much-awaited new console during their presentation.
“We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

Nintendo fans have been eagerly awaiting this next version of the Switch for years. The Nintendo Switch was launched in 2015 and has since become the third best-selling gaming console of all time particularly because of its portability and capability to be connected to an external display.
Nintendo also released the Nintendo Switch Lite in September 2019 and the Nintendo OLED in October 2021.
According to Dr. Serkan Toto, the CEO of Kantan Games, which acts as a consultant for Japanese gaming companies, and a respected “Nintendo expert,” the Nintendo Switch 2 may cost USD400 or PHP 22,000+ while games will most likely get a price increase too at USD70 or PHP 3,900+.
