It looks like we’re about to get a Black Mirror movie — very soon

We’ve previously talked about a Netflix leak that possibly teased the fifth season of the streaming service’s hit science fiction series, Black Mirror. A deleted Tweet from the official Netflix account showed their schedule for December. On that list was the ominous title “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch”.

At the time, we thought it was simply going to be the first episode for the next season. However, new information from Netflix itself makes it clear that we are more likely going to get an actual movie! First of all, the Netflix listing explicitly headlines Bandersnatch as a ‘Netflix Original Film’. Second, the running time listed is 5 hours and 12 minutes.

Sure, the running time could have just been a mistake or a glitch in the system. But sources say this more than likely points to an interactive Black Mirror film. Leaked details from the Korea Media Ratings board allegedly describe the film as a choose-your-own-adventure type, set in the genre of video game movies.

A translation of the rumored details (which have now been deleted) from the Korea Media Ratings board reads: “A young programmer makes a fantasy novel into a game. Soon, reality and the virtual world are mixed and start to create confusion.” It would make sense if the paths in the movie diverge once this game is set up.

More proof of this is the official response that Netflix gave to the initial schedule leak about a month ago. When questioned by The Verge, they replied by saying: “Thanks for reaching out! You have the ability to choose your own response from Netflix: this or this.” It seemed like the typical cheeky statement from Netflix, but now it seems to be hinting at an interactive movie.

If the original leak holds true, we won’t have to be waiting very long to find out. December 28, the release of new Black Mirror content, is only a few days away!
