Is a “Charmed” Movie with the Original Cast in the Works?

A lot of ’90s kids grew up watching Charmed, the series following the Halliwell sisters, the most powerful good witches who use the Power of Three to fight demons and warlocks. In eight seasons from 1998 to 2006, sisters Prue, Piper, and Phoebe (and later Paige) captivated the world, becoming the second-longest drama broadcast by the network The WB and the second-longest running hour-long television series featuring all female leads.

In 2018, the show was rebooted with new sisters and powers. It has good reviews from critics, with a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the review aggregation website, “Charmed‘s updates are as fun as they are surprisingly feminist — and with a sharper focus, it could conjure up an even stronger show than the one that came before it.”

Now, there’s a chance that the original actors are reuniting for a movie on Netflix. Alyssa Milano, who played Phoebe, told Access Daily, “I mean, Holly [Marie Combs] and I talk about Charmed movies a lot, you know. Because they have the new Charmed, which is on The CW, and it’s a very different storyline.”

“But we have been talking about maybe doing some films for Netflix. And so I think that would be really fun and I think it’s a great way to celebrate our fans that have stuck with us for such a long time but still give it new blood.”

Even Rose McGowan, who played Paige, is on board. She announced at the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show, “I think I would if it was a limited series, like maybe Netflix or Amazon or eight episodes, that would be amazing. I would hope that Shannen Doherty would be in it, too.”

Doherty played Prue, until she was killed off in the third season after disputes between her and Milano.

In 2018, Doherty said she wasn’t open to joining the Charmed reboot because she is already part of the Heathers reboot, where she played a key role in the original movie. She told Entertainment Weekly, “It’s funny, because somebody said to me, ‘Oh, would you do the Charmed reboot?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t be the reboot queen!’”
