Here’s How To Avail Of The Student Discount For Airfare

The Student Fare Discount Act was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte into law last July. It institutionalizes “the grant of student fare discount privileges on public transportation and for other purposes”, effectively applying a student discount on all public transportation utilities, whether by land, sea, or air. Just this November 1, the Civil Aeronautics Board released a resolution which now allows students to avail of said discount for domestic flights.

The CAB clarified that all Filipino students enrolled in elementary, secondary, technical-vocational and higher education institutions are eligible for the discount. However, students of dancing or driving schools, short-term courses, or graduate programs are not.

Discounted fares are applicable throughout the entire period of enrollment, including holidays and weekends.  Should there be promotional fares available, the student will have to choose between the promotional rate or the regular rate with the student discount applied.

To avail of the discount students must purchase their tickets at the airline’s ticketing office. They must bring with them the following documents:

  • School ID
  • Validated enrollment form
  • Any of the following: Birth certificate, baptismal certificate, Form 137, naturalization certificate, passport

Airlines may have their own verification process for the application of the discount.
