You’ve probably watched Inventing Anna, a Netflix miniseries that told the story of Anna “Delvey” Sorokin, a woman who tricks New York’s elite into believing she’s a German heiress.

She also stole money from people and even scammed several financial institutions along the way.

It’s based on a true story, and is adapted from an article in New York magazine written by Jessica Pressler, called “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People.”

The real Delvey was paid by Netflix in order to get the rights to the story. According to an exclusive report by Insider, she was paid $320,000 or P16,416,000.

It’s a lot of money but she can’t enjoy it since most of it has been used to pay banks and settle fines.

According to Insider, “Sorokin has used $199,000 of the money to pay restitution to the banks, plus another $24,000 to settle state fines.”

She has also used $75,000 to pay her lawyers, and she’ll need to pay more once the legal proceedings are over.

Aside from these, Delvey “formally agreed to pay the $70,000 in restitution she still owed to Citibank.” In the past, she has paid $100,000 to City National Bank.

There is a lot of interest in Delvey’s story. Rachel Williams, a writer who was portrayed by Katie Lowes in Inventing Anna, received $30,000 by Simon & Schuster for a book called My Friend Anna. HBO has also paid her $35,000 to option it into a project. But this has expired, and Williams confirmed that the project is “not currently in development.”

Inventing Anna was created and produced by Shonda Rhimes, who is behind well-loved series like Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder.

It has a 64% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the review “While Inventing Anna is as tonally wobbly as Julia Garner’s intentionally daffy accent, her committed performance and the salacious story make for juicy entertainment.”
