When in Manila, there are often many beauty trends that we see online. Just a few days ago, I noticed how beauty bloggers, celebrities, and makeup artists were using the hashtag #InternationalLipstickDay. Despite being easy to apply and carry around, lipsticks could instantly transform your look.
When looking for lipsticks, I always enjoy checking out the shades that Happy Skin offers. It turns out that I’m not alone! Just last month, Happy Skin collaborated with Preview Magazine to come up with two shades of matte lipsticks. These were met by an overwhelming response–they were able to sell a week’s worth of stocks in a day!
Happy Skin is selling six new lippies, and I’m excited to share my Happy Skin experience with you.
The three lippies on the left are the Moisturizing Lip Lacquer (P699). It’s an extremely pigmented, high-shine lip lacquer that goes on weightless and non-sticky on the lips. The lippies on the right side are the Shut Up & Kiss Me Moisturizing Matte Lippies (P649 each).
For the Moisturizing Lip Lacquer, I was able to try the brightest shade: Hear Me Roar. I know Happy Skin lippies to be highly pigmented, but this lip lacquer was even more pigmented that what I expected. I didn’t have to re-apply the lip lacquer. One swipe was more than enough already. Despite its high-shine look, it didn’t feel heavy on the lips, either.
The people behind Happy Skin explained why:
The Power Pout’s shiny-yet-weightless finish is due to a new wax-free gel technology. But despite it being lightweight, the lip lacquer is still able to provide the lips with deep hydration, thanks to a blend of four essential oils infused in the formula: jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil, aloe oil, and olive oil.
Happy Skin also released three matte lippies in different shades of pink. The one I tried out is in the shade of Pop the Question.
Compared to the two other matte lippies, Pop the Question is in the most toned down shade. At first, I wasn’t so sure if I’d like the way it would look on me. For one, because it’s a matte lipstick, it won’t have that glossy quality. And because it’s in nude pink, I wondered if it would make me look washed out.
Surprisingly, I ended up REALLY liking this lipstick. It’s now one of my favorites! I don’t buy lippies in the nude shade, but I think Pop the Question worked out really well for me. It’s one of those nude lippies where you don’t look washed out, but you don’t look over the top, either. I’d say it’s the perfect shade of nude pink!
Rissa Mananquil-Trillo, one of the co-founders of Happy Skin, said, “Like all our lippies, we made sure that these new matte shades look amazing across all skin tones.”
Another thing I observed how smooth and easy it is to apply, considering it’s matte lippie. Their secret ingredient is the cupuaçu butter. “Cupuaçu butter has the capacity to attract 240% more water,” Rissa shares. “It allows the lips to effectively hydrate and plump, and it’s also known for absorbing damaging UVA/UVB rays. So your lips—where skin is the thinnest—get natural sun protection, too.”
The Verdict
The (very) pigmented and glossy Hear Me Roar lip lacquer is something I’d wear to evening parties and events. It immediately brightens your lips and transform your everyday look into something more eye-catching.
The Pop the Question is something I’d wear to school or brunches out with friends and family. I even see it as my new everyday lippie!
