H.E.R. Joins Lea Salonga in the Production of the Imelda Marcos Broadway Musical “Here Lies Love”

H.E.R. has joined the Imelda Marcos Broadway musical “Here Lies Love”–an immersive musical based on the rise and fall of Imelda Marcos–as a producer.

“Filipinos are a global people,” H.E.R., whose real name is Gabrielle Wilson, stated. “We come in all colors and build bridges across cultures. I am beyond excited to produce my first Broadway musical and forge a unique and meaningful partnership with Here Lies Love.

Conceptualized by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim who also did the music and lyrics, the upcoming show is said to turn the Broadway Theatre into a dance club to portray the “Imeldific” life of the former First Lady. Byrne has also reportedly expressed his excitement about having the Filipino-American award-winning singer-songwriter on board with the team.

Lea Salonga also welcomed H.E.R. to Here Lies Love with open arms. She said in a statement, “I am a huge fan of her genre-defying and multifaceted artistry, and it’s empowering to welcome another Filipino artist to our ranks.” The theater legend is also one of the musical’s producers and will be guest-starring as Ninoy’s mother Aurora Aquino, marking Salonga’s first time as a Broadway producer and portrayal of a Filipino character.

So far, the confirmed cast of “Here Lies Love” are Jose Llana and Conrad Nicamora, who will be playing the roles of former president and Imelda’s late husband Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino respectively.

“Here Lies Love,” a Filipino story produced by and starring Filipinos, will start showing on June 17 before its official opening night on July 20.
