Bohemian Rhapsody Producer Reportedly Working On A Michael Jackson Biopic

When Hollywood spies a winning formula, they hop on it so quickly that it becomes a trend. It looks like this is exactly what’s happening with cinematic adaptations based on the lives of legendary music icons.

First, there was Bohemian Rhapsody, whose success paved the way for these kinds of movies in the first place. Then there was Rocketman, an unnamed David Bowie project, and plans for a Bee Gees movie.

Now, Deadline reports that Graham King has secured the rights to produce a Michael Jackson biopic. His deal with the Michael Jackson estate includes all the rights to use of his music, as well. King’s involvement in the project is notable due to his role in making Bohemian Rhapsody a success as its producer.

King will be working with Oscar-nominated writer John Logan to create the film. Logan will be on board as the film’s scriptwriter. His writing for films The Aviator, Hugo, and Gladiator have all been acknowledged with Oscar nominations. Logan and King have previously worked together on both Hugo and Rango.

As for the film itself, it apparently won’t be taking a “sanitized” approach to Jackson’s life. This means they possibly intend to cover the expansive complexities of Jackson’s life. From a troubled childhood to allegations of sexual abuse in the midst of his wildly successful career, there is definitely a lot to explore.
