This is Regina De Vera. This Filipina dreams of going to Juilliard to pursue her dream of acting. All her life, she has worked towards this goal, having graduated with a Theatre Arts degree in Ateneo, being part of various plays, and garnering awards for her performances. Early this year, she gambled all her life savings to go to New York to audition for the prestigious school. Out of 1,900 applicants from all over the world, 18 were accepted. Regina De Vera is one of them. She got into the school’s 4 year Masters of Fine Arts in Acting program beginning this fall 2015-2016.

However, though Juilliard has awarded her financial aid, it is still not nearly enough to get her there. Expenses for the first year which include getting her Student Visa and the actual bill for the first semester amount to 2.7 M all in all– with 1.5 M due on June 15 and the rest on August. With less than a month as to the first deadline, she asks for help through a crowd funding site.

“This opportunity comes rarely in the lifetime of an artist especially for someone born and raised in the Philippines. I am determined to pursue this path and hopefully make my country proud,” Regina writes.
