Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 3 is the Best Episode So Far!

THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS ARTICLE.

I am a huge ‘Game of Thrones’ fans and like a lot of other ‘Game of Thrones’ fans out there, I was a bit worried about the show after the sixth season ended because, as we all know by now, they will no longer be following the book series by George R.R. Martin (aka the guy who has been ripping out our hearts since season 1).

For the past two weeks, I have been watching the show, but none of the episodes really made me react violently in any way… until today. Here are some of my favorite scenes from the third episode:

Jon and Daenerys meet… FINALLY.

Game of Thrones Season 7

Finally! Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen meet in this episode! While it wasn’t anything grand and nothing like I actually imagined it to be in the end, I still got kilig when I saw Jon Snow walking up to Dragonstone to meet her. Of course, they still don’t know they’re related at this point and most of their conversation merely revolved around how one should help the other – and, as always, Tyrion Lannister saved the day to forge a bit of an alliance between the two – but I don’t mind waiting a little longer for a huge power alliance between the two.

Cersei gets her revenge on Ellaria.

Ellaria Sand Game of Thrones

Before I start talking about this part, you need to know that I’m a huge fan of the Lannisters, specifically Cersei Lannister. Out of all of the characters in ‘Game of Thrones’, she is the one I can relate to the most. To me, everything she has done so far was smart and well thought out, and has made perfect sense. As much as I love her and as much as I’d like to stand by her in this episode, though, this was a bit too much.

In this episode, Cersei dreams up a torture method to enact justice for Ellaria’s murder of Myrcella. While I understand her pain, the way her brain worked for this scared me a little as it is very similar to how the Mad King murdered Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark. What the Mad King did was suspend Rickard above a flame, place a sword near Brandon, and tie a rope around his neck as he watched Rickard burn. Brandon also died in the process, strangling himself on the rope as he tried to reach the sword to save his brother.

What Cersei did was poison Ellaria’s daughter Tyene the way that they poisoned Myrcella in season 5. The only difference is that she left Ellaria tied up there to watch her daughter die. With such a similar torture method to the Mad King and with her burning down the sept in season 6 using the wildfire of the Mad King, it looks like the theory about Cersei turning into the Mad Queen might not be so far off, either. The question is: will Jamie be the one to kill her, too?

Sansa and Bran reunite.

Sansa Stark Game of Thrones

I’m not a Stark fan, but I have to admit I cried buckets when Sansa and Bran Stark finally reunited at Winterfell. After watching their family go through all sorts of hardships through the seasons, it was hard not to get all emotional when the two saw each other again. I was, however, expecting Arya to show up there instead. I probably would’ve cried harder if she was the one who showed up.

Sam saves Jorah from greyscale.

Sam Jorah Game of Thrones

Sam’s ‘operation’ on Jorah goes smoothly and he saves him from greyscale. This poses two questions from here on out: will Jorah and Daenerys reunite now that she’s in Westeros? Will Sam finally play a bigger, more important role from here on out?

Jaime gives Olenna a merciful death.

Olenna Tyrell Game of Thrones

As a Lannister fan, this was both awesome and painful at the same time. While Tyrion thought he was being smart by sending the Unsullied to Casterly Rock through a secret entrance, he didn’t bank on Jaime taking the Lannisters to Highgarden to ambush the Tyrells. Here, he announced a merciful death to Olenna, allowing her to drink poison without her feeling anything.

Of course, she didn’t let things just end there. After drinking the poison, she told Jaime to tell Cersei that she was actually behind the death of their son Joffrey and not Tyrion, even pointing out that Joffrey suffered during his death. Talk about going out with a bang.

The way things are going, it looks like ‘Game of Thrones’ may become more and more exciting from here on out. Fingers crossed! What did you think of today’s episode? 🙂
