When you say Sex and the City, many things quickly come to mind and one of them is fashion. In the show, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda are always dressed fashionably and many of their looks have become iconic. Who can forget Carrie’s tutu in the opening credits, Charlotte’s penchant for romantic dresses, Samantha’s power suits, and Miranda’s menswear-inspired looks? Sex and the City turned Manolo Blahnik into a household name.
So of course, when it was announced that HBO is reviving the show, we were wondering what the fashion would be like.
Before we get started, And Just Like That… follows Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.
We got to interview Cathy Ang, the Fil-Am actress playing Lily Goldenblatt, Charlotte York’s daughter. We asked her, what was it like working on the revival of one of history’s most stylish shows?
She jokes, “I have never been so worried about spilling something on myself.”

Ang describes the wardrobe process like this: “[they had] a bunch of different outfits already in this huge room where like there’s beautiful lights and just racks and racks of clothes.”
She adds that finalizing the wardrobe took hours because “it’s just another way for these women to express themselves.”
What’s interesting to us is that when writers make changes to the stories, then the wardrobe would be adjusted, too. Ang shares, “clothes will reflect who this person is and what they’re doing. [It] informs characters, like how they move and everything to the world.”
And after watching And Just Like That…, the wardrobe did not disappoint. Sure, the looks may have slightly changed because the women have matured (no more “the naked dress”), but they are still gorgeous and stylish. Fans will also notice some favorites from Sex and the City!
