The team of Ms. Ipat Luna served Pancit, Tapa Roll, Brown Rice Balls, Stir Fried mushrooms with  Brown Rice and Tofu with Mango Tomato dressing. Sev’s Cafe promotes and supports organic and local farming as to where all their ingredients come from.

Did you know that during pre-colonization, we Filipinos were into Brown Rice?  We were then introduced to its white counterpart which at that time availed by the privileged-society and not for long we all got curious and eventually forgot about Brown Rice.  The Good Food Project, aims to bring back Brown Rice as our regular staple food.

First of all, it undergoes only one milling process which means in terms of sustainability farmers can produce more and that our rice uses lesser carbon footprint. Second, the rice bran is still attached to the grain which contains essential nutrients. According to M. Frei and K. Becker, on Rice Biodiversity and Nutrients from University of Hohenheim in Germany: Brown Rice is high in dietary fiber, it is rich in B Vitamins, has high phytic acid which is an anti-oxidant and it also controls cholesterol levels from is unsaturated fatty acids. When it comes to the price, it may cost a little bit more but hopefully as more and more Filipinos consume Brown Rice, more farmers will produce it and it will become more affordable said Rash Catitativo of The Good Food Project. Again, don’t forget to buy locally produced Brown Rice to help our Filipino Farmers.

You may also attend their next event on October 16 for the Brown Rice Conference. Advocates will be featuring and serving their favorite Brown Rice Recipes which you can try. This includes Aia de Leon, singer of band Imago, who also sang at this event for the bloggers. The Brown Rice conference will also be including a Good Food Planner filled with information about the Good Food and other healthy recipes.  Watch out for the details in their facebook page.
