Veteran broadcast journalist Doris Bigornia has reportedly suffered a heart attack and is in need of open-heart surgery, according to her co-host and fellow ABS-CBN reporter Alvin Elchico.
Elchico made the announcement on their DZMM Teleradyo program “SRO” on February 23, Tuesday evening. He clarified that he received express permission from the Bigornia family to share the news with the public.
“Bago po tayo mag-umpisa dahil marami po kasi ang nagtatanong so, nagpaalam po ako sa pamilya ni Mutya ng Masa Doris Bigornia na sabihin po sa inyo, pinapasabi lang po, ang Mutya ng Masa, siya po’y inatake sa puso noong Linggo, papuntang Lunes,” Elchico said.
“Siya po’y sinugod sa ospital at ngayon po’y nasa ICU. Ka-kaailanganin po ng ano eh, open-heart surgery. So ang pamilya po ay humihingi po ng panalangin, so sa ngalan po ng pamilya ni Doris Bigornia, ang Mutya ng Masa, kami po sa DZMM Teleradyo ay humihingi po ng inyong panalangin.”
[Translation: “Before we begin because many of you are asking, I’ve gotten permission from the family of the Muse of the Masses, Doris Bigornia, to tell you on their behalf that she suffered from a heart attack on Sunday night to Monday morning.
“She was rushed to the hospital and is currently in the ICU. She requires open-heart surgery. Her family is requesting prayers so, on behalf of Doris Bigornia, the Muse of the Masses, we at DZMM Teleradyo are asking for your prayers.”]
He also revealed that Bigornia is conscious and has spoken to him through the phone. It is unknown when the surgery will take place.
