WATCH: The new Dora the Explorer trailer is an action-packed adventure

We owe a lot of our elementary-level Spanish to the Dora the Explorer of our youth. But who could have known that she’ll be making a comeback as a teenaged girl on the most dangerous quest she’ll ever take?

The newest trailer for the live-action Dora the Explorer movie just dropped and it’s, well, different. We have teen Dora (Isabela Moner) moving out of the jungle to attend High School with her oddly skinny cousin Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg) with no clue how education works, while her archeologist parents (Michael Peña and Eva Longoria) go on a dangerous quest for the legendary Lost City of Gold.

But things escalate quickly as Dora gets abducted by strange men who are also searching for the Lost City. Realizing that her parents are in grave danger, she embarks on an expedition with a ragtag group of teens including Diego, a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and her best pal Boots, armed with nothing but her purple backpack and a map.

The new movie is definitely giving us more of Indiana Jones than the Dora we came to love as kids. Still, it’s bound to be enjoyed, if not by the generation who has grown up, then by the new generation of children who has yet to call Dora a friend. Only time will tell, however, if this Dora will be dropping some Spanish phrases we’ve yet to learn, or at least break the fourth wall and ask us to chant “Swiper, no swiping!” when he (Benicio del Toro) arrives.

Dora the Explorer and the Lost City of Gold will in Philippine cinemas on August 2019 and will be distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures: https://www.facebook.com/uipmoviesph/
