China Says They Shouldn’t be Blamed for the Coronavirus

Various countries have been calling on an investigation to find out more about how Beijing has handled the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China, where the very first cases came from. Last week, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said that China had to answer questions on the breakout of the coronavirus and how it could have been prevented and managed earlier than it was.

Last weekend, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne questioned China’s transparency and asked for an international inquiry into how the coronavirus pandemic originated and was handled there. US President Donald Trump also spoke up about sending various experts to China to investigate the matter.

Because of this, Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang spoke up earlier this week on how he thinks the United States has to stop blaming China for the current pandemic, saying they were “also a victim”. Geng pointed out that everyone should be working together to fight COVID-19 instead of blaming or suing others.

In Beijing, Geng told reporters that the world can only overcome COVID-19 if we stay united and work together to make concerted efforts. “Attacking and discrediting other countries simply wastes time and cannot save lost lives,” he said, pointing out that COVID-19 is the enemy and not China. “China has been attacked by the virus and is also a victim of the virus. We are not the culprit, nor the accomplice of the virus,” he added.

“The origin of the virus is a serious scientific issue and should be handled by scientists and medical experts and it should not be politicized,” Geng said, adding that he hopes people in the US would respect facts and science instead of continuously attacking and accusing China for the outbreak.
