Where to See Cherry Blossoms: Japan’s Sakura Forecast for 2024

It isn’t too late to make travel plans to see the cherry blossoms in Japan this year!

The Japan Meteorological Corporation has released its official forecast for 2024’s sakura season which is expected to begin as early as March 19-20 in the Kochi and Nagoya prefectures. The cherry blossoms will then be in full bloom in the last days of March until the first week of April, except in Aomori and Sapporo which will experience full bloom in the third week of April and the first week of May respectively.

  • Sapporo: May 1 – May 5
  • Aomori: April 19 – April 23
  • Sendai: April 6 – April 11
  • Tokyo: March 22 – March 29
  • Kanazawa: March 31 – April 6
  • Nagano: April 5 – April 10
  • Nagoya: March 20 – March 30
  • Kyoto: March 23 – March 31
  • Osaka: March 25 – April 1
  • Wakayama: March 22 – March 31
  • Hiroshima: March 22 – April 1
  • Kochi: March 19 – March 27
  • Fukuoka: March 22 – March 31
  • Kagoshima: March 27 – April 7
