Trinity Stagers is restaging Bienvenido Noriega Jr.’s BAYAN BAYANAN on May 2 and 3 at Trinity University of Asia’s (TUA) Mandell Hall Auditorium.
The 11th anniversary celebration of Trinity Stagers as a theater guild calls for a classic comeback of Noriega’s well loved play of all time. BAYAN BAYANAN which was first shown in the Cultural Center of the Philippines has its shares of remakes in Chicago, Athens, Italy, London, Geneva, and Paris.
BAYAN BAYANAN was known for its Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) theme. The script works with several characters on the verge of diaspora. Their only recess is the company of each other and the lingering thought of going back to the Philippines. These Filipinos blindly maneuver themselves in Europe in search of greener pasture for themselves and some, for their families.
This season’s remake is subject to a different treatment by a younger cast and crew. All of which are students of TUA. “ What’s different about the men and women of Trinity Stagers ay (is) malleable sila (them). Willing sila (them) to morph into whatever path you want them to tambay (stay). It’s not everyday you get the chance to work with people na kahit magaling, ang li-liit ng ego sa katawan (It’s not everyday you get the chance to work with people that are great but with little ego in their bodies)” Sheena Beronio this season’s director said when asked what is the difference of this theater guild to others’. She chided that her play this time would not be a snob as she is not a snob herself.
Trinity Stagers is a 5 time awardee of the most outstanding organization and was invited to stage its latest production WAITING AREA in University of the Philippines Theater Council’s 2015 Curtain Call.
