Trust me when I tell you that I didn’t see this coming either. There I was perusing my social media with morning goop still in my eyes (because let’s face it, checking our phone is how we really start our days) when I stumbled upon Chelsea Peretti’s shocking tweet for the day.
confident, idiotic-but-smart, pithy, and infused with rhythm and cell-phone radiation. ❤️💯It is hard for me to know exactly what to say. Perhaps Emmy Rossum said it best when she wrote about Shameless (I bolded the extra relevant parts in her quote below):

In it, she mentions that she will not be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine in season 6. She also takes the time to thank the fans who have supported and watch Gina be Gina: “confident, idiotic-but-smart, pithy, and infused with rhythm and cellphone radiation.”
Because she doesn’t know the exact words to say too, she quotes Emmy Rossum’s explanation when she left Shameless and bolded the statements such as wonderfully written; real friendships that bring us back season after season; and this family has nurtured me and made feel safe enough to stretch and grow creatively that I can only assume as how she strongly feels about the show, the cast, and why she has made this decision for her career.

This isn’t fully goodbye, however, as Chelsea makes it clear – “this doesn’t mean I’ won’t ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji.” So there is still some good left in this world (phew).
This may be the second saddest piece of news we’ve ever received about our beloved precinct. But true to her spirit animal, a lone wolf must trek the hard and beaten path to complete its journey. Gina Linetti will always be the sarcastic, unpredictable family member of the Nine-Nine whether or not she would only appear for a few episodes. And one thing is for sure: whatever Chelsea Peretti decides to do next, she has a league of fans that will always support her and laugh alongside her (winky face, heart emoji).
