Bodyshot Gym in Butuan: Top Tips to Get Started at the Gym

3. Decide how often you want to go to the gym.

Some of you will get so hyped up by the thought of getting fit that you’ll end up going everyday, others will think that maybe 20 minutes a day will do, both types will only end up disappointing themselves when you start to get burnt out from exercising everyday and when you don’t see any results from that 20 minute daily workout. Try to start going at least twice a week — build your stamina and try to build more energy as you work your way up to going three times a week. You’ll see me at Bodyshot at least twice a week or if I’m feeling lucky, I’ll go a third time and try to do some heavy cardio workout by joining a circuit training group. Still feel like you need more? Add one more day to your routine as you see fit, but don’t do one straight week in one go — remember, doing everything in excess can just be as bad as not going to the gym at all.

Visiting at least twice a weak can do a lot for you body.

4. Listen to your body.

Some days you’ll be able to do eight rounds of boxing, some days you’ll manage to just do four. Don’t beat yourself up when this happens, it could just mean that today you are moving more quickly  than the previous week and know that that takes more from you than more rounds of boxing can or it may simply mean that your body is just a bit tired. Don’t stress out or force yourself to keep doing more. Know when to stop, we wouldn’t want to see you lying on the floor passed out only because you tried to do more than what your body can handle.

Don’t try to do more than you’re body can handle. While it’s good to push yourself, be careful not to overdo it.

5. Enjoy the process.

I’ll admit, most days I don’t feel like going to the gym but knowing that I’ll enjoy it later on, I end up psyching myself up just before my alarm goes off  and get up from my bed as quickly as possible.  Notice how some people at the gym pose in front of the mirrors to check out their own physique? Don’t judge them just yet, sometimes, it’s good to look at the progress of your own body and feel good that you’ve made it this far by taking one small step at a time. And my favorite thing about going to the gym? I’m (just a bit) more conscious of what I put in my body. I know that when I eat pizza tonight, I’ll be paying for it at the gym tomorrow so I’ll maybe just have a slice (or two…or four!!) when I eat out and work extra hard the next day. But the great thing about it is knowing that whatever weight I gain from the bad food I’ve been eating, with the right discipline, I’ll be able to lose the extra pounds in the next few days. Of course, it also means I now opt for healthier meals most of the time as opposed to eating any random meal at any time of the day.
