Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) has just rolled out the country’s first 5G-powered mobile banking kiosk to conveniently serve customers in different parts of Metro Manila.

With Metro Manila under enhanced community quarantine due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the mobility of its population is now severely limited. UnionBank recognized how this could be a problem for people who sorely need to access basic banking services – especially for those who weren’t able to set up their online accounts before the lockdown.
So their new initiative, Bank on Wheels, seeks to address this. The airconditioned banking kiosk in a mobile van includes services like balance inquiries, withdrawals, bills payments, fund transfers, and opening accounts.
It is scheduled to go to various predetermined locations to allow people comfortable banking services without requiring them to leave their respective communities. It will be powered by 5G technology, allowing for reliable connectivity during their banking procedures.
UnionBank’s Chief Technology and Operations Officer and Chief Transformation Officer Henry Aguda says “banking services are among the most essential services for many people. However, access to these services has been very limited because of the health crisis that we are currently facing.”
“By deploying a mobile banking kiosk that is powered by 5G technology, not only are we able to make banking more accessible to customers, we are also able to do so in a way that is faster and more efficient,” he concludes.
Bank on Wheels already visited Marikina and Eastwood in the past few days. It will be in Libertad, Mandaluyong this March 31. April’s schedule has yet to be announced.
