Artistang Artlets Challenges Tradition in “Binibining Maria Clara” at UST

Mabu-hey! Get ready to turn the spotlight on for the University of Santo Tomas’ Artistang Artlets, as Binibining Maria Clara takes center stage at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex (TARC) Auditorium this November 2025.

The one-act play explores the tension between traditional ideals and modern realities. At its core, it challenges stereotypes tied to femininity and beauty—particularly the pressure to uphold the image of the demure, obedient, and soft-spoken Maria Clara archetype that has long been idealized in Philippine culture.

ARTISTANG ARTLETS POSTER BINIBINING MARIA CLARA

Directed by Claudette Francesca Bayabay and Juliana Domingo, and managed by Natalie Aaren Tolentino, the play showcases its protagonists as they confront rigid ideals of femininity and beauty. Written by Tiffany Chanel Ducusin, it questions what it truly means to be a Filipina in today’s world—caught between tradition and authenticity.

More than just a show, Binibining Maria Clara serves as an invitation for the audience to reflect on long-held notions of identity and empowerment.

Performances run on November 8, 2025, at 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 4:00 PM, and 5:30 PM at UST’s TARC Auditorium. Tickets are available for purchase here: https://forms.gle/Kj9uFExs9E2uD9zH6.
