#Kamalayan2021 is a one-day online webinar, featuring talks from a prominent politician and lawyer, that will be held through a live stream on KASANGGA’s Facebook page on February 17, 2021, to encourage youth participation in political and socio-civic affairs.
The COVID-19 outbreak has exposed many problems lurking within Philippine society. From a crippling healthcare system to poor wages for essential workers, to even police brutality and impunity, the country certainly has had so many issues to address. However, a silver lining has emerged as the pandemic has also further jolted local politicians, LGUs, and much of the youth across the country to engage in discourse. Amidst extended quarantine and lockdown restrictions, an online discourse has truly become all the more important and relevant. The issues of today will continue to shake the Filipino youth to actively imagine and create a “Philippines” that is fairer and more just than it has ever been.
With this, KASANGGA proudly introduces Kamalayan. As KASANGGA’s first project for 2021, this two-day online webinar will feature prominent political voices who will be talking about their experiences as student leaders of the past and politicians of the present while providing concrete advice on how the youth can make a difference.
On Wednesday, February 17, 2021, running from 3:30 in the afternoon to 6:00 in the evening, will feature FLAG (Free Legal Assistance Group) chairman and human rights lawyer Atty. Chel Diokno. He will be talking about the topic “Student Action and Red Tagging: The Importance of Voicing Out the Opinions of the Youth.” He will be followed by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas who will be talking about “Progression amidst the Pandemic: Iloilo City’s Fight against COVID-19.” Each talk will have a roundtable discussion for the questions and answers of the audience. You may post your questions and answers before the event in this google form here: tinyurl.com/KamalayanQA.
