Alec Baldwin Breaks Silence After Firing Prop Gun That Killed Cinematographer On Set

Alex Baldwin has made his first statement regarding the fatal shooting that happened at the set of his upcoming film “Rust,” where he had fired a prop gun that he was unaware had live rounds and hit the film’s director of photography in the chest.

According to reports, Baldwin was handed the gun by the assistant director and told it was a “cold gun,” meaning it was not loaded. He was then rehearsing a scene when he had fired the gun, shooting Halyna Hutchins who was then pronounced dead at a hospital. Baldwin had also hit director Joel Souza on the shoulder and had also been transported to the hospital for care.

Baldwin has taken to Twitter to post his statement.

“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours,” he said. “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Allegedly, the assistant director did not know the gun had live rounds when he had handed it to Baldwin on the set. All firearms and ammunition, cameras and computer equipment, and the clothes worn by the actors at the time of the shooting were also seized. As of writing, no charges have been filed.

The Santa Fe County is currently investigating the incident.
