ALAB – CPH is a socio-civic and service-oriented organization of the University of the Philippines Manila College of Public Health (UP CPH). Throughout the years, it has produced well-rounded student leaders, training them in the five (5) thrusts of the organization– advocating for student empowerment, public health awareness, integrity, service, and holistic excellence. As an organization, one of the main goals of ALAB – CPH is to catalyze a change that will move the students and the College of Public Health forward through its student-centered and service-oriented programs.
Since its founding year, UP CPH has produced a number of professionals in various fields, paving the path for the next generations in the name of public health. In light of this, ALAB – CPH, along with the College of Public Health Student Council (CPHSC) and the UP Hygiene Society (UP HySoc), annually hosts “Trip to the PHuture.” The event consists of a series of talks that aims to provide insights to aspiring public health professionals about the possible career paths one could take. Professors and alumni in various fields of public health, such as but not limited to, environmental and occupational health, epidemiology and biostatistics, health policy and administration, health promotion and education, medical microbiology, nutrition, and parasitology are invited to provide testimonies about their journey as a public health professional. Other than these, guests are also enlightened on the role of public health in various fields, institutions, and situations. The event also brings to light the current challenges and opportunities in the field of public health, which high school students, undergraduates, and graduate students who have shown interest to practice public health profession in the future may take into consideration.
Due to the face-to-face restrictions brought upon by the pandemic this academic year, the organizing committee has decided to conduct Trip to the PHuture on different online platforms. As such, for the first time in history, this insightful endeavor shall be carried out through a 7-episode podcast series entitled “ALAB Radio: Trip to the PHuture 2021,” which will be available on the official Facebook, Spotify, and Youtube accounts of ALAB – CPH. Episodes will be released every Friday at 7:00 PM from March 5 until April 16, 2021.
