When in Manila, do you still remember the first ever The Demo we watched from A-Team ? I know I do. I still remember it as one of the best dance concerts I’ve ever watched. Now A-Team’s back with their third installation of their much awaited benefit dance concert for the 2014 World Hip Hop Dance Championship.
The Arda Team
A distinct selection of the this generation’s finest dancers, A-TEAM, is one of the Philippines’ official representatives in both the Varsity and Megacrew divisions of the 2014 World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada this August 05 – 10.
Formed by two of the most sought after coaches in the Philippine hip hop community, Angelica Arda and MJ Arda, the team takes pride in its over 50 multifaceted members, their styles ranging from power LA, swag, waacking, popping, locking, krumping, breaking, and even contemporary.
Although just a little less than 3 years young, as it was established only in October 2011, A-TEAM has continued to deliver nothing less than remarkable and world class in all its undertakings. In its first competition, A-Team ranked 2nd in the 2011 Slimmers World Step Up dance competition. Five months thereafter, the team placed 3rd out of 20 qualifying crews in the finals of the Singapore Dance Delight Vol. 3. These achievements were followed with even more as the team bagged 4th in the Varsity division of the 2012 World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada; 2nd in the Varsity division of the 2012 World Supremacy Battlegrounds in Sydney, Australia; and 1st in the Varsity division and 3rd in the Open division of the 2013 World Supremacy Battlegrounds.
Apart from its noteworthy performances in both local and international competitions, A-TEAM has also expanded its horizons by having organized Philippines Dance Delight Vol. 01 and 02 with its internationally-based partners.
This 2014, A-TEAM took another huge step forward as it competed for the first time ever, in the Megacrew division in the 1st Hip Hop International Philippines. In the NCR Regional leg last January, A-TEAM took 1st and 3rd place in the Megacrew and Varsity divisions respectively. Following this, they moved on to the National Championship held last May where they further proved their excellence in the art as they became the first ever champions in both divisions, thus making them the official representatives for the upcoming 2014 World Hip Hop Dance Championship, the most widely recognized hip hop competition operated by the world’s paramount street dance authority, Hip Hop International.
With their rich dance backgrounds and incessant passion for the art, the 40-strong team continues to grow as individual performers and as a unit, striving to live up to the standards of truly becoming the country’s pride and along the way, inspiring their fellow dancers.
The Journey Begins
To support the team financially in its endeavors, A-TEAM is organizing various projects to address the expenses that the team shall be facing as they head to Las Vegas.
Currently ongoing is the A-TEAM: On Tour set of mall shows held in various SM Supermalls around Luzon. The team started the tour last July 07 and shall continue to visit different malls every weekend until July 13.
Second, there is also A-TEAM’s Bid For A Cause, where friends and supporters are given the chance to spend a dinner date with one of their favorite A-TEAM members by placing their respective bids. Bidding is done via A-TEAM’s Facebook page, has started late May and shall end on the first week of July.
Lastly, on July 05, 2014, A-TEAM shall be holding a fundraising concert entitled “The Demo Vol. 03” at the SM Skydome North EDSA. The event shall showcase a number of pieces from the team, as well as guest performances from other renowned dance crews. Tickets are available at PHP300 each.
Furthermore, the team also accepts sponsorships and solicitations in exchange for promotion and exposure in the said event.
