When Ipponyari first opened its doors on Arnaiz Avenue in Makati back in 1996, it was built on a very simple premise. Its Japanese founder simply wanted a place to enjoy authentic food that met the standards he was used to back home.

In those early days, the restaurant was much smaller, featured a menu with fewer than ten items, and catered mostly to Japanese businessmen and residents looking for a familiar taste of home.

What started as a modest neighborhood spot slowly transformed into something much bigger, fueled by customers who kept coming back for a quick workday lunch, a casual dinner with friends, or a simple meal to unwind. That loyal following paved the way for Ipponyari to expand beyond Makati into growing communities across Southern Luzon and Metro Manila, opening branches in Sta. Rosa, Dasmariñas, Lipa, Calamba, Alabang West Parade, and Mitsukoshi BGC.

Today, the restaurant boasts six branches and a sprawling menu of almost 300 dishes, ranging from ramen, gyoza, and tempura to sushi, sashimi, katsu, and teishoku.

Despite the growth in locations and menu choices, the core philosophy has never changed. General Manager and Co-Founder Ms. Grace Lachica shares that the team never imagined the small 1996 restaurant would expand into what it is today, noting that seeing customers return year after year remains their greatest joy.

Over three decades, Ipponyari has naturally woven itself into the fabric of everyday life, evolving from a quick dining spot into a go-to venue for birthdays, family gatherings, company dinners, and holiday celebrations. With select branches offering private spaces, alongside catering services for home and corporate events, the restaurant ensures that good Japanese food is always within reach—whether dined in or ordered for delivery.

Looking ahead, CEO Mr. Jun Fukuro expresses deep excitement for the future and a commitment to reaching new people while keeping the authenticity and comforting environment that started it all. To celebrate this milestone, Ipponyari is marking its 30th anniversary under the theme “30 Years of Everyday Japanese – Shared with You”.

The year-long celebration includes limited-edition merchandise, special activities, and a major surprise planned for October 30. From its humble beginnings in 1996 to its vibrant presence today, Ipponyari continues to prove that the best meals are the ones shared with the people who feel like family.
