On June 19, the Philippine Embassy in Spain announced the export of a 100-kilogram shipment of Guimaras mangoes to Europe, marking a significant step in introducing one of the country’s most celebrated agricultural products to European consumers and trade partners.
“This initiative marks an important milestone for Philippine agriculture and exports. Guimaras mangoes are the first registered Geographical Indication (GI) product of the Philippines, reflecting the unique connection between their exceptional quality and their place of origin,” the embassy said.
The shipment also celebrates another milestone. It was made possible by Guimaras Wonder Farm, a women-led enterprise behind the historic export of Guimaras mangoes to the European market.
According to the post, the mangoes began their European journey in Brussels, Belgium, before making their way to key cities, including The Hague, Paris, Berlin, and Madrid.
“Introducing premium Philippine products to European markets creates opportunities not only for our exporters, but also for our farmers, entrepreneurs, and local communities. We hope this initiative will open doors for future partnerships and strengthen appreciation for the quality and diversity of Philippine agricultural products,” Philippine Ambassador to Spain H.E. Philippe J. Lhuillier said in an official statement.
Philippine agricultural products continue to make waves on the global stage. Ube, the country’s native purple yam, remains a popular international food trend, loved for its vibrant purple color and its earthy and nutty flavor.
Guimaras mangoes are renowned for their distinctive sweetness, aroma, and flavor—qualities shaped by the province’s generations of farming expertise, as well as its unique soil and climate.
