“Chinoy Chismis: Wah-kong Anak Na Ganyan!” Returns This November

After its postponement due to inclement weather last September, Chinoy Chismis: Wah-kong Anak Na Ganyan! finally opens its doors this November 7.

Set in a fictional dating show hosted by a Chinese-Filipino mother, three hopeful “kaishao” boys compete for her daughter’s hand — all under the watchful eyes of her strict ninangs. The story is a playful yet piercing look at how Chinoys navigate love, reputation, and family expectations in a world where every choice has a price.

The show runs for two nights only — November 7 (Friday) and November 8 (Saturday) — at Don Conejos Restorante, Greenhills Town Center. Doors open at 8:00 PM, and the show starts at 8:30 PM.

What’s New This November?
Those who watched the test shows last September can expect higher stakes and sharper comebacks this time around. Throughout October, the cast began incorporating their personal experiences into the text and their improv sessions, finding a stronger voice that portrays both the good and the bad sides of Chinoy culture.

FAMAS nominee Isabelle Sophie Ng (@isabellesophie___), who stars as the fiercely independent Julie, shares stories about the challenges faced by Chinoy women. Opposite her is Julie’s conservative mother, Auntie Patty — the same character played by comedian and content creator Ansis Sy (@ansissydatwalk), known online as the ‘matapobreng Auntie’ in a pink duster.

Nina Lim (@aartworksonly) and Rensi Pua (@renrengoneaway) portray Julie’s ninangs, taking on the “good cop / bad cop” dynamic as they try to steer her toward traditional expectations. In hopes of marrying Julie off to a good husband, they introduce her to the Kaishao Boys — Chino Liao (@chinosupersized), Jacqpat (@jacqpatgan), and Dav Dionisio (@davdionisio). Meanwhile, Jin Mikado (@jinmikado) plays John, the restaurant waiter caught in the middle of all the family drama. All of the cast members are part of the Third World Improv community.

A Three-Part Theatre Project from UP Diliman
Directed by Geráld‐Kristóf Diola (BA Theatre Arts, UP Diliman) as his undergraduate thesis and produced under UP Dulaang Laboratoryo, Chinoy Chismis is a three-part series of Chinese-Filipino reimaginings of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie.

Advised by Mr. Jonas Gabriel M. Garcia and Asst. Prof. Robert Arlo De Guzman, the project explores cultural dynamics between “Pinoys” and “Chinoys” through performance, satire, and collaboration.

The trilogy began last May with Corporate Affairs, a Fil‐Chi reinterpretation of Miss Julie staged at the DTI-PTTC ENSAYO Creative Hub, where ambition, class, and scandal simmered behind office doors. Wah-kong Anak Na Ganyan! builds on that energy — shifting from the privacy of workplace intrigue to the spectacle of a public contest, showing what happens when decisions are made under the spotlight.

An Immersive Restobar Experience
With the story set inside a working restaurant, audiences become part of the world as they dine and watch the drama unfold. Each ticket includes one (1) free meal, with choices such as Boneless Chicken Thigh Fried Chicken, Buffalo Tenders, Beef Caldereta, Pork Belly, or Spring Rolls (Cheesy Pork, Beef, and Mushroom variants available).
