Almost everyone is a fan of Maris Racal’s humorous online antics, from making random memeable videos to cracking Pinoy-coded jokes, but some aren’t as impressed with the 26-year-old star.
One netizen in particular decided to voice out their opinion about the actress, criticizing her for seemingly snatching the spotlight from the love team of Belle Mariano and Donny Pangilinan in their ongoing series “Can’t Buy Me Love” and claiming that she is only popular now because of the success of the show.
“Nadikit ka lang sa DonBelle, umarte ka na ng ganyan! Wait mo matapos ang series, if san ka pulutin. Arte arte mo wala sa lugar. Feeling BIDA yarn?! DonBelle is DonBelle after the series. Let’s see if kaya mo sabayan yung solid and laki ng Fandom/Fanbase nila. Para kang langaw na nakatuntong sa kalabaw. Nakikisakay ka lang. Gets mo?! Ay Irene Tiu ba pa toh or Maris Racal na?! [laughing while crying emoji]” the netizen wrote in a comment to Maris’ Instagram post last January 5.
The post in question was a picture of a river during sunset as well as a picture of her posing by the water. “feeling grateful. grabe kayo (naiiyak me),” she wrote on the caption.
The hateful comment didn’t escape Maris’ attention and she decided to reply to the netizen with just a simple clap back: “omg naging thankful lang ako. sorry :(”
As of writing, Maris has turned off the comments of that post and edited the caption to only have the yellow sparkles emoji.
Maris, who plays Irene Tiu in the Netflix show, often goes viral for her comedic scenes with her love interest Snoop (played by Anthony Jennings) in “Can’t Buy Me Love.” She also starred in the Prime Video series “Simula Sa Gitna” with Khalil Ramos and the film “Here Comes the Groom” last 2023.
