The authorities said they received a report from his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, that Lee left home after writing a letter, which appeared to be a suicide note. He was found unconscious in his car at a park in central Seoul at 10:30 a.m. It was also reported that charcoal briquettes were found in his car.
The actor was being investigated for alleged use of marijuana and other illegal drugs. In October, he filed a complaint against two people, including a hostess. Lee claimed the hostess tricked him into taking the drugs and that he was unaware of what he was taking.
He tested negative in both the brief reagent test conducted during police investigations and the laboratory-based drug test by the National Forensic Service in November.
Aside from “Parasite,” Lee is also known for his roles in “Coffee Prince,” “My Mister,” “Helpless,” and “All About My Wife.” He is survived by Jeon and their two children.
