Yup. Apparently, we’re not just making films set in space now, we’re now actually filming in space.
On October 5, Russian actress Yulia Peresild and film director Klim Shipenko were launched into space on board the Russian SoyuzMS19 spacecraft. The historic event happened at the launch facility Baikonur Cosmodrome located in Kazakhstan. This project was led by Roscosmos, a.k.a’s Russia’s counterpart for USA’s NASA.

The mission is being led by veteran cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov. The film crew, which is headed for the ISS aboard the Soyuz MS19, is reported to shoot for 12 days in space to film scenes for the movie, titled The Challenge. According to a report by GMA, The Challenge will “center around a female surgeon who is dispatched to the ISS to save a cosmonaut.”

This Russian mission has beat a Hollywood space project as the first movie to ever film in space. The Hollywood project, which was announced May last year, is said to be a collaboration between A-list star Tom Cruise, NASA, and SpaceX.
