“The Promised Neverland,” which first aired in January 2019, follows the story of young children who plan an escape from their orphanage after they discover what happens to their friends when they are “adopted.” The first season, which can be viewed on Netflix, ended after a total of 12 episodes with a nail-biting cliffhanger that left fans desperate to find out what comes next.

The much-awaited second season was supposed to premiere in October 2020 but because of production restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, series creators announced back in May that it had to be pushed to a later date. It was later revealed that it was going to be aired in January 2021 instead with no specified date.

Just a few days ago, however, the official Twitter account of “The Promised Neverland” shared exactly when the sequel would be arriving: January 7!

The tweet featured a promo clip that showed highlighted moments of the series’ protagonists Emma, Norman, and Ray from the first season.

We can hardly wait!

The manga officially came to an end after four years of serialization in June 2020. It earned mixed reviews among readers who felt that it “crammed” too many events in its last few chapters. Nevertheless, longtime fans expressed how much they’ll miss the series.

Meanwhile, a live-action movie is being released on December 18, 2020. It is helmed by Yuuichirou Hirakawa, who also directed the live-action series adaptation of “ERASED” (“Boku dake ga Inai Machi”), and stars Keiko Kitagawa as Isabella and well-known Japanese comedian Naomi Watanabe as Sister Krone.
