How to Keep Going Just Like Alex Gonzaga

As you grow older and move towards the “adulting” phase of your life, it’s inevitable to think about your goals. Was it a successful year? What have you accomplished? Where did you fall short? And perhaps most importantly, what do you need to do to accomplish your goals?

Just like every millennial, Alex Gonzaga shares with us what she learned through life’s ups and downs. In this short interview, we looked back on the milestones that she achieved, as well as the challenges that molded her to become the strong person that she is today.

2019 is no doubt a great year for AlexG. Looking back to the year that was, some of her major milestones include the second anniversary of her Youtube Vlog, launch of her new sitcom with her sister Toni Gonzaga, celebrity collaborations, and of course, her wedding engagement. However, we also learned that before getting the recognition and success that Alex is receiving, like everyone else, she experienced rejection.

“There’s this one time in my career that I felt rejected and that all of my decisions were wrong. It was two (2) years of rejections. In 2015, after my concert, I felt that the network and the people who are managing me, are not in favor of the career path I’m taking.” When asked who she turned to, she said “God. I became closer to God. When you’re no longer sure of what’s going on in your life and you’ve already exhausted your plans, we have no one else to turn to but God.”

The host/singer even had a point in her life when she questioned herself thinking that her personality is the problem. Until she realized that she did not need to change her quirky personality or her funny antics; she just needs to stay true to herself while realizing the traits that she needs to improve on. She emphasized that “You don’t need to change your core personality just to get a job. You just have to realize and accept certain traits that you need to improve on, so you can be better.”

For a resilient person like AlexG is, we could pick up a few things she has learned over years of hustling and working hard:

“Learn from your challenges.”

It’s okay to experience a lot of hardships when you are young — all hardships, trials, and challenges that you are facing is actually a preparation for what is about to come. Don’t compare your pace with anybody else’s because we are taking different paths, with different destinies.

Don’t be mad at yourself and at the situation. Don’t have regrets. Try to learn from it as much as you can because everything that you’re going through is part of the process.

“Don’t put your value and worth in social media”

Social media is fleeting. When you use it, make sure that you know who you are as a person and you are aware of what’s really important. Do not let social media dictate your life or control the things that you should do.

“Just keep on going. Don’t quit.”

Remember that everything turns out for the good. Trust the process. In spite of the challenges you are facing, don’t quit. Keep in mind that you are facing hurdles because it is necessary for you to get through it – to learn.

“Trust God”

When you are faced with challenges and you feel like you could no longer handle the circumstance because it is outside your comfort zone, try to remember this bible verse that Alex holds on to, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” For AlexG, you will not be given a task or be presented with an opportunity if God thinks you can’t handle it. Pray for wisdom to know if it is for you or not.

While she considers 2019 a big year, the start of 2020 did not turn out the way she expected. Just like everyone else, she also faced some challenges and uncertainties. However, Alex remains hopeful that everything will eventually fall into place. “All the plans I have laid out both for my vlog and my personal life may have taken a detour. This is the year that I was able to strengthen my faith. Trust God. After all, He is the only one in control.”
