Trump Warns China Could Face Consequences Over COVID-19: “The whole world is suffering.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday during his daily White House briefing that China should face consequences for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak if they were “knowingly responsible.”

“It could have been stopped in China before it started and it wasn’t, and the whole world is suffering because of it,” Trump began.

(Should China be Sued for the Coronavirus Outbreak?)

Undoubtedly, the American president had on his mind the rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases around the globe. As of April 19, John Hopkins CSSE has reported over 2 million cases worldwide and more than 730,000 cases in the U.S. alone.

“If it was a mistake, a mistake is a mistake. But if they were knowingly responsible, yeah, I mean, then sure there should be consequences,” Trump continued. It was unclear what ‘consequences’ he was referring to.

He added that China was “embarrassed” and that it came down to a question of whether it was “a mistake that got out of control, or was it done deliberately?”

“There’s a big difference between those two,” he warned.
