This is how this artist pays tribute to fallen COVID-19 frontliners

Erratum: An earlier version of the article said that the frontliners who were sketched passed away from COVID-19. However, the artist clarifies that not all the frontliners died from COVID-19. This tribute is for the ones who died while fighting on the COVID-19 frontlines. WheninManila.com extends their sincerest apologies for the error. (Edited on April 20, 2020)

According to the artist, Aurelio Castro III, he has been an on-location artist for 5 years now. It’s been his hobby and personal project to bike around Metro Manila every day to sketch scenes he likes. But because of the ECQ, he isn’t able to do his usual rounds anymore. However, Aurelio’s urge to document was still there.

He explains, “Then I saw sa online news yung mga namamatay na frontliners. The posts were inconsistent marahil dahil sa difference ng date ng news. Dun ko naisip na gumawa ng personal way para maipon sila.” (I saw on the online news the frontliners who are dying. The posts were inconsistent probably because of the difference in the dates of the news. That was when I thought of a personal way to bring them as one.)

With this, he expresses his deepest gratitude to the frontliners for their service and sacrifices. He also hopes that giving the frontliners the necessary equipments and tools so that they can work safely will be given priority.

Aurelio Castro III also posts all his other works online for everyone to see. You can click here to see his other artworks. His band also dedicated a song for all Filipino COVID-19 frontliners.
