Is Kris Aquino’s horror film comeback in MMFF 2019 canceled?

Three days ago, Kris Aquino announced the cancellation of her film (K)ampon from the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019 on an Instagram post where she writes, “So, unfortunately, my return to horror was not meant to be for MMFF 2019…”

The ‘Horror Queen’ has shown quite a performance on her previous horror films like Feng Shui(2004), Sukob (2006), Dalaw (2010), and Segunda Mano (2011); so yes, her comeback is a big deal!

Kris Aquino herself expressed her disappointment upon the supposed cancellation on a separate post saying, “tulala ngayon kasi bukod sa hindi tuloy ang isang project na ginusto ko talaga, may ilang milyon din na sagutin kami sa MMFF bond, prod staff, crew, and artists…” (K)Ampon is produced by Quantum Films but Aquino is also reportedly an investor.

She also mentioned the importance of deadlines, not only in the film industry but in general, on another post – “missed deadlines will matter a lot… holding on to your values & principles will define you NOW & in the future…”

Meanwhile, in a statement with Rappler, MMFF spokesperson Noel Ferrer clarified last August 17, 2019, that “the official correspondence about the decision will be sent to the concerned producers of (K)Ampon by Monday.” Whether the film will be pulled out of MMFF 2019 or not, it would depend on the producers’ response to the festival’s letter.

The ‘Queen of All Media’ turned to her followers on Sunday, though, for guidance on her plans to go to Boracay instead today – supposedly their first day of shooting. She says, “I’m taking the 2 boys on the 20th to Boracay (para hindi na lang maisip na yun dapat ang 1st shooting day)- I know maraming changes. So, please guide us?”

Among the first four entries to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019  are VIVA Films’ “Miracle in Cell #7” starring Aga Muhlach and Bela Padilla; “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” with Kapuso stars Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza; and “Momolland” featuring Dimples Romana and Tony Labrusca along with Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis.

It would have been exciting to see Kris in a horror movie again, don’t you think?
