Disney CEO Bob Iger announced in a conference call with investors last August 6 that Disney would be ‘reimagining’ certain movies for their new streaming service. Said movies all fall as properties previously owned by Fox. This comes on the heels of Disney acquiring majority of 21st Century Fox assets in a $71 billion deal last March — so it only makes sense that they would want to maximize such a costly purchase.

Aside from the Christmas classic Home Alone, where a child is famously left home alone (pun intended) for the holidays, Disney will also be remaking at least 3 other movies. The first is Night at the Museum which chronicles the night of a museum guard as he goes through the adventure of the museum displays coming to life. We can also expect a remake of Cheaper by the Dozen, telling the story and struggles of a family of 12. Last is Diary of a Wimpy Kid based on the series of novels of the same name.

Iger explained to investors, “We are also focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our… platforms — for example, reimagining ‘Home Alone,’ ‘Night at the Museum,’ ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ for a new generation on Disney+.”
