When I was still working as a photographer in Manila a few years ago, I remember how Chicken Charlie was one of our go-to fast food places near our studio. Their meals were always affordable, tasty, and healthy – perfect for photographers who were always on the go. When I heard that they would be opening a franchise in Butuan and right beside a school, too, I was excited about it. I know this place is going to be one of those go-to food spots for students in that area and for people who need a budget-friendly, quick, and healthy food fix.
If you’re new to Chicken Charlie, I would strongly recommend trying their Signature Chicken Burger. At Php135 ala carte and Php165; this burger with its locally-sourced, hand-cut potato fries and drink won’t disappoint.
The fries are fried to perfection – crunchy and slightly toasted on the outside, and light and crispy on the inside. These burgers are not only popular with students, but with gym buffs, too. Skipping the meat? Try their fish burger for a change. Equally promising.
This casual and Instagrammable burger joint also serves food bowls that start at Php99. You can choose from their chicken bowls – Chicken Patty, Chicken Rolls, Chicken Wings, and Chicken Sisig – or their seafood bowls – Fish, Squid, Shrimp Tempura, or Mixed Seafood. With all of these choices on their food bowls alone, it seems like Chicken Charlie is all about bringing us both good vibes and better food options. I was tempted to try each rice bowl, but since they’re just a few minutes away from home, I knew it could wait.
Since I’m trying to live a better and healthier lifestyle, I LOVE that Chicken Charlie has salad options, too. Their salad toppings range once again from Chicken to Squid, Fish or Shrimp. I finished a squid bowl in just one go and knowing that it was healthy, I had absolutely no regrets. It’s not easy to find salad in fast food chains so this is definitely a step in the right direction, especially for students and young professionals. Kudos to Chicken Charlie for offering affordable salad options in all of their branches!
Chicken Charlie tries their best to source their ingredients locally to ensure that their food is always fresh, tasty, and affordable. And because this brand looks so young and hip, you can hardly tell that Chicken Charlie is actually a homegrown brand! They started in Banawe 10 years ago where a lot of local restaurants have become favorites among food lovers. From a 12-seater joint, Chicken Charlie’s popularity grew and they expanded their first restaurant to a 30-seater restaurant not too long afterwards.
Today, Chicken Charlie has 10 branches in different parts of the Philippines. We’re lucky that they opened their first Northern Mindanao branch here in Butuan City.
