On Sunday, a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight from Dubai to Manila diverted to India when one of its passengers, Mary Grace Alejandro, gave birth in flight.

According to Manila Bulletin, PAL PR 669 departed Dubai at 11:45 PM on Saturday and on its fourth hours in-flight, 40-year-old Alejandro, who was seven months pregnant, began experiencing abdominal pain.

With the assistance of PAL’s cabin crew, Alejandro gave birth to her seven-month baby girl. When Alejandro exhibited signs of weakness, the flight was diverted to the nearest airport, which is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, India at that time.

Upon landing in India, Alejandro was rushed to Apollo Hospital. She was accompanied by representatives from Aero Technical, which handles PAL’s passenger services.

Alejandro’s baby girl is on ventilator support. She is expected full recovery in six weeks.

Alejandro was flying with her 16-year-old son, Edward.

Alejandro’s husband and sister are set to arrive in Hyderabad on Monday, April 18.
