The 6th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit themed Stepping Up Partnerships To Electrify Public and Private Transport” will focus on areas of collaboration to drive wider electric vehicles adoption for public and private transport.

The event will take place on July 10 & 11 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

“It is our belief that by stepping up partnerships, we can electrify public and private transport much faster. Since we started our advocacy ten (10) years ago by building our first e-jeepney and established the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, we feel that everything is falling into place now,” EVAP President Rommel Juan said.

According to Mr. Juan, “Government and business interest in electric transport are growing rapidly as costs associated with EVs begin to drop and charging infrastructure start to expand. Even automotive giants such as Nissan and Mitsubishi are making a push in bringing their EV models to the Philippine market. Early this year, a regional survey conducted by Frost & Sullivan revealed that Filipinos are the most eager to buy EVs when they make their next purchase decision.”

To aid in the conversation, senior government officials and industry stakeholders across the value chain including vehicle OEMs, infrastructure providers, battery suppliers, and transport companies will be gathering at the country’s premier event focusing on electric mobility for both public and private transportation adoption.

Organized by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) and Partnership for Clean Air (PCA), the 6th PEVS is being undertaken in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Trade (DTI), Department of Energy (DOE), Nissan Philippines, Inc. and Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation.

“In the public sector front, the DOTr’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) is in full swing and will soon launch its project to create an enabling environment for the commercialization of low carbon urban transport system in the Philippines. Adoption of electric cars in the Philippines for own use and for private commercial transport use (i.e. taxis) is inevitable but the government and the private sector need to collaborate to put in place a clear policy, timeframe and infrastructure to grow the sector,” Mr. Juan said.

“With the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement establishing the ASEAN Federation of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Association (AFEHVA) by the EV Associations of the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore last year, there is now an active and intensified partnership among industry players in ASEAN region to promote and accelerate the deployment of electric vehicles,” added Mr. Juan.

This year’s PEVS will feature the following:

  • Keynote Messages by Senior Government Officials from the Senate of the Philippines, Department of Transportation, Department of Trade & Industry, Department of Energy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources on their initiatives to promote sustainable transport;
  • Nissan and Mitsubishi’s EV Technology presentations showcasing their commitment to delivering smarter, safer, sustainable mobility solutions for the future;
  • Discussion by Frost & Sullivan on the current status and future of e-mobility in the Philippines with a broad spectrum of policymakers and industry stakeholders as panel reactors;
