A Filipino-American teenage boy was shot in the head by an unknown gunman in his own home in Rainier Beach, Seattle, Washington State.

Earl Estrella, who was only 16 years of age, went to answer the door at his family’s home on April 23 when someone knocked. When he opened it, “several shots” were fired according to reports, and Earl died on the spot. He was shot in the head. The unknown suspect fled after the shooting.

According to Earl’s stepfather, Phouvieng Soneouthay, he heard the knock on the door that was soon followed by the sound of gun shots. When he rushed out, he saw his son on the floor.

Daisy Rivera Ganal, who introduced herself as Earl’s aunt and godmother, has set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with funeral expenses. The page reads, “For those of you who knew and loved Earl, this news is absolutely devastating as he was only 16 years old and was a kind and sweet person.  He loved his family, especially his siblings, Ryan, Jlord, MJ, and Kayla.”

As of writing, the page has already raised $39,000 out of its $10,000 goal.

The family’s next-door neighbor, Ian Price, also shared in reports, “He was often sitting outside doing homework,” talking about Earl. “Just a really friendly kind person.”
