When it comes to local flavors, Singapore is best known for their delicious and affordable hawker food scene. This year, The Festival’s Hawker Spotlight falls on Amoy Street Food Centre, home to not only many heritage hawkers in Singapore, but also stalls that made it to the Michelin guide – with Bib Gourmand awardees.
Discover the magic behind the food and why locals love hawker stalls Nasi Padang Sederhana, Syed Mohammed Drinks, Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee, Hong Kee Beef Noodle and Quan Ji. Also check out next-generation hawkers such as A Noodle Story, Coffee Break and Brothpot. Mutton putting their spin on local favorites for a new taste sensation.
Pick up Hawker Spotlight booklets at the City Gas Gallery and various Singapore Visitor Centres from 13 July onwards to enjoy special discounts and promotions at featured stalls.

8. Get a taste of local Singaporean favorites
Treat yourself to a different kind of food experience and go have a nice dinner in one of Singapore’s best hotels—Fairmont Singapore, Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, SO Sofitel Singapore, Swissotel Merchant Court and Mercure Singapore on Stevens. Plus, for the festival, these hotels are preparing sumptuous dishes that pay tribute to local Singaporean favorites. Think Hokkien prawn noodle soup, Laksa seafood Paella, Har Cheong (prawn paste) spring chicken, and many more.

9. Enjoy ethnic dishes starting at just 50 cents
Savor authentic yet super affordable 1930s dishes like Kerabu Bee Hoon (tossed rice vermicelli), Fish Moilee (lightly spiced creamy fish curry dish) and Kopi Gu You (butter caramelised black coffee) and other ethnic dishes from the colonial days at Chinatown Singapore. At the popular 50 Cents Fest, enjoy food that start from just 50 cents and street entertainment such as virtual reality installations, performances, and even traditional opera.

10. You can understand Singaporean heritage through their food
If you’d like to explore the heritage side of Singapore’s food more, Folklore restaurant may just have the answers for you. For Singapore Food Festival 2018, a partnership between Time Out, Chef Damian D’Silva of Folklore, and various guest chefs will take guests on a food journey highlighting age-old recipes of fast-vanishing Singaporean dishes as well as local-inspired cocktail pairings.

11. Have a unique theatre-dining experience
Theatre and dining? Catch Makan Cosmopolitan in this setting, a play set in a hawker centre. It’s a story of characters that engage in discourse about food culture and its place in Singapore, as they queue up for their favorite nasi lemak, a delicious coconut milk rice. Experience the food that brings the play’s characters apart and together, with a specially-curated menu by Chef Roy from bistro place Escobar.

12. Classic food film screenings over delicious local food
Go on a gastronomic journey at The Screening Room, where films are paired with food. In conjunction with the Singapore Food Festival, the month of July will feature classic food films like Chocolat, Eat Drink Man Woman, and Like Water for Chocolate—while guests enjoy popular local dishes such as crispy soft shell with chilli crab ragu and hawker-style BBQ chicken wings.

13. Experience Beer Yoga and meet new friends
After all that eating, time to get some drinks—and a stretch. Why not do both at the same time? Check out Beer Yoga, where the beer-drinking and the mindfulness of the yoga practice are said to complement each other and result in an energizing experience. Do this during the Singapore Food Festival and you can get to enjoy a bottle of limited-edition Singapore Food Festival-branded beer after your workout, too.
