In line with its 59th founding anniversary, the Kapatirang Plebeians Curia (chapter) in University of the Philippines Los Banos will hold its annual week-long celebration named Plebeian week, with the central theme “Hamon sa Sambayanang Pilipino: Ituloy ang Adhikain ni Bonifacio (Challenge to the Filipino Nation: Continue the Cause of Bonifacio)” on August 19-23, 2013.

This week would kick off with Padunungan, a quiz contest for high school students within the Los Banos area on August 19, followed by Talak at Mulat, a symposium attuned to Bonifacio as the Katipunan’s Supremo (leader) and as a common citizen. On August 22, Pelikula’t Pulitika would present films on the continuation of the Supremo’s spark of revolution. This would be capped off by Bigayan at Bukasan, an open feast to symbolically give back to the students’ recognition and trust in the organization’s principles and actions.

Joseph German Jesuitas, Tribune and head of the organization, notes that this would be a very special event for this year would be also mark the 150th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio; the Great Plebeian and one of the pillars of the 1896 Philippine Revolution.

“Buong Pilipinas, actually halos buong mundo ang nagpupugay sa kabayanihan nila Bonifacio na nagbuwis ng buhay para makamit ang tagumpay ng mga mamamayan, kaya sa pagdiriwang na ito ay nais pa rin naming ipalaganap ang diwang makabayan at palaban ng Dakilang Plebeian,”  said Jesuitas

An extemporaneous speech contest, also named Talak at Mulat would also be held, but would start a week before for screenings, and would simultaneously take place with Padunungan for the final round of the competition.

Founded in 1954 by a group of scholars from UP Diliman as an alternative organization against elitist and myopic ideals of organizations and physical and mental tyranny after the death of a grandson of Justice Albert, the Kapatirang Plebeians have spread throughout the country, spreading the ideals and principles of liberty and reason and has spilled onto fighting for the rights of the Filipino.
