Deftones Live in Manila 2013

When in Manila may have not been a part of Deftones‘ first Manila concert in 2011 but we made it sure that it’s different for their second bout in our capital city! Just last Sunday, May 26th, all roads led to the World Trade Center for the promotion of their latest album, Koi No Yokan.

Even though I wasn’t feeling really great that afternoon, I was super stoked to cover the show because this one’s my second big concert for When in Manila (the first one was last month’s TOE in Metrotent). Thanks to Mae and Vince, my good editors, because we got VIP tickets, aside from having passes to the photographers’ pit. I went there all the way from the South of Manila with my partner/photographer and three more friends. Our bodies were ready!

As soon as we reached the venue, we looked for the two winners of the Gold tickets. They were there, too, just in the nick of time. We were escorted by one of the show’s bouncers to the photo arena and that was when the night actually began. Everything went fantastic. And we’re showing you the proofs!

Knock yourselves out because we have six superb reasons—each strongly evidenced by photographs c/o Bijan Gorospe—why that night totally rocked and rolled!

01. Queso’s stirring opening performance. Before the main course, it is always delightful to watch homegrown acts, who are equally fans of Deftones, such as Queso. They did a majestic set and kept the audience hyped as they played five songs, including their famous Mottaka.

Note: A female-fronted local band, Philia, played before Queso did. But, we were not able to watch the former because we were among the second batch of media who went inside the photo pit. Thus, we only caught photos of the latter.
