Boracay to Ban Single-Use Plastic on the Island

Miss Boracay yet? We know we do! Of course, it’s already expected that things will definitely change once the island reopens.

Aside from prohibiting big parties like LaBoracay, the LGU officials of Malay, Aklan is also enforcing an ordinance that prohibits single-use plastic once the island reopens later this year.

This ban will include plastic in the form of straws and plastic bags with hopes of reducing the impact of single-use plastic on the environment.

Styrofoam will be prohibited, as well.

Businesses on the island are also encouraged to use eco-friendly products, such as dispensers for liquid body soap, shampoo, and conditioner.

El Nido has also done the same, the ban of which will be put to effect starting on September 1.
