Azkals All Set to Face-off Kuwait Later at Rizal Stadium

When in Manila, the Philippine Football Team Azkals are looking forward to a better shot at winning versus Kuwait Al-Azraqs at the Rizal Memorial Stadium later. The team is more confident now that they will be playing at their hometown. And with Team Captain Aly Borromeo and midfielder Stephan Schrock back to play with the team, they might just get the sweet win this time around.

“With Aly back, we’ll have more stability, especially in defense,” Azkals Coach Michael Weiss said. “We’ll also have more offense with Schrock.” Borromeo and Schrock got suspended after both incurring 2 yellow cards in the Azkals’ 1st round qualifier against Sri Lanka.

With the Azkals lacking fresh legs on the field, defense not tight enough, and Borromeo missing in central defense, Kuwait took advantage of the opportunities presented towards them. This led the Azkals to lose their first game against Kuwait at the Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium with the score of 0-3. As a result, Azkals dropped to #162 in the FIFA world ranking while Kuwait rose to #95 (as of July 2011).

The Azkals need to win 4-0 against Kuwait in order to advance to the 3rd round of 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
