5 Winona Ryder Movies You Need to See

If you’ve been bitten by the Stranger Things bug, but were not aware who Winona Ryder was before you watched the show (she plays Joyce Byers), then you are missing out on a lot of great movies. Although Winona has made some small appearances in fairly recent movies like “Black Swan” and “Star Trek”, this brilliant actress was an absolute icon back in the 80s and 90s. Here is a list of her movies that you need to see at least once in your life.

5 Winona Ryder Movies You Need to See

5. Girl, Interrupted (1999)

“Girl, Interrupted” is based on the life of author Susanna Kaysen, who stayed at a mental hospital for 18 months in the 1960s. In this movie, we are introduced to several women hospitalised for various mental problems – women who, by the way, are more relatable than you might originally think.

4. Beetlejuice (1988)

“Beetlejuice” revolves around a couple of ghosts who hire a bio-exorcist named Betelgeuse (pronounced ‘Beetlejuice’) with hopes of getting rid of the new owners of their house. This is a classic Tim Burton movie starring a brilliant and unforgettable Michael Keaton, and while a lot of people say “Beetlejuice” isn’t the type of movie that everyone will enjoy, I beg to differ. At the very least, “Beetlejuice” will give you some major Halloween costume goals.

3. Heathers (1988)

“Heathers” isn’t your typical high school movie – and that’s exactly what I love about it. In it, Veronica (Winona Ryder) teams up with JD (Christian Slater) to kill her barkada of cool girls (all of whom are named Heather). It’s twisted and it’s dark and it’s a whole lot of awesome.

2. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Edward Scissorhands movie quote

“Edward Scissorhands” revolves around a man of the same name – a near-person who sadly doesn’t have his hands because his creator died before he could finish them. As such, he lives with scissors for hands and tries to live a normal life… which obviously, isn’t that easy. It sounds absurd, but it is a fun and interesting movie, as well as one of my favorite love stories of all time.

1. Reality Bites (1994)

It was hard to decide whether to give the top spot to “Edward Scissorhands” or “Reality Bites”, but I decided on the latter as it is much more relatable. Also, I don’t mind watching this movie over and over again. The movie revolves around a bunch of new graduates who have no idea which direction to take in their lives just yet. “Reality Bites” is full of quotable quotes and relatable life situations. Fun fact: the movie was directed by Ben Stiller.
